Poppe + Potthoff Präzisionsstahlrohre
100 % Safe. Accurate. Reliable

Dr.-Ing. Bengt-Henning Maas has been appointed Head of the Division “Tubes and Tubular Components”.

Strengthened into the new year

Poppe + Potthoff is broadening its range of products and sets the course for further growth with a new structure. Following the acquisition of Plaschka (precision machine components), the Group has entered the new year with now around 1,500 employees. The divisions "Tubes and Tubular Components", "Precision Parts" and "Drive Technology" are now being further expanded.

Dr.-Ing. Bengt-Henning Maas has been appointed Head of the Division “Tubes and Tubular Components”. Thus, the CEO of Poppe + Potthoff Präzisionsstahlrohre GmbH will also assume the strategic leadership at the plant for Common Rail Subsystems in Ajka (Hungary) and the specialist for high-pressure testing and automation technology, P+P Maschinenbau in Nordhausen (Germany).

"I am very pleased with the expanded range of tasks and very confident that the new structure will create additional value for our customers and employees," says Dr.-Ing. Bengt-Henning Maas. "We will use the synergies in the development of customer-specific solutions, intelligent manufacturing and quality testing to further optimize our offerings."

Dr. Christian Potthoff-Sewing as CFO and President as well as Rüdiger Faustmann as CEO want to further develop the Group on the basis of three strong pillars. In addition, they are also giving the next generation of top executives the opportunity to further expand collaboration with customers, partners and employees around the world in order to shape the future together.

Precision steel tube with locking or adjusting ring profile: Smallest radii at the inner corners ensure a firm hold.

Locking profiles with sharp teeth

A new addition to the production range of Poppe + Potthoff Präzisionsstahlrohre GmbH are the so-called locking or adjusting ring profiles. These tubes have external profiles with different heights, widths and pitches according to customer requirements. In locking profiles, a pin engages in the outer latch, the adjusting ring is blocked by means of a hook spanner.

Drawing the pipes is challenging, not only because of highly differing wall thicknesses: The inner corners of the teeth must have the smallest radii to prevent a sliding of the tool or slipping out of the locking pin. These requirements are met by Poppe + Potthoff Präzisionsstahlrohre GmbH and allow a wide use of the profiles.

Today's product range includes tubes with an outer diameter of 20.00 mm to 65.00 mm in the materials E235 and E355. For further materials, dimensions and specific profiles, we will be happy to check for manufacturability and submit an individual offer. Challenge us!

Poppe + Potthoff Präzisionsstahlrohre GmbH will be competently represented by IuIF GmbH at the trade fair Z in Hall 4, Stand D16.

Trade show Z in Leipzig

Poppe + Potthoff Präzisionsstahlrohre GmbH will once again be a co-exhibitor at the trade fair Z (March 07-10, 2017 in Leipzig). At the joint stand of IuIF GmbH in Hall 4, Stand D16, customers and prospective clients will be informed about the new dimension range – up to 100 mm outer diameter – and the tube offering in welded drawn realization (DIN EN 10305-2).

"With our presence at one of the leading trade fairs for the European supplier industry, we want to further encourage and intensify the dialogue with our customers and interested parties," explains Thorsten Ellersiek, Head of Sales at P+P Präzisionsstahlrohre. "Proximity to the customer helps us formulate the future requirements for ourselves and to develop them in a targeted manner."

Results of this dialog are e.g. the changes and extensions of the tube production program to be presented on the Z. The traditional production program for seamless tubes according to DIN EN 10305-1 has been expanded to a maximum outer diameter of 100 mm and welded drawn tubing has been introduced.

"The positive response of the clientele is clearly noticeable and strengthens our position as a supplier through the broader range of services," says Thorsten Ellersiek. "Our target group are suppliers, which are active in medium and low production stages and therefore close to the 'semi-finished tube'. With our expertise for small, medium and large series, we cover a wide range, which is very interesting for the visitors of the Z."

With the coordinate measuring machine on video basis, the shape and dimensional accuracy of the drawn round and profile tubes can be checked precisely.

Even tighter tolerances

Poppe + Potthoff has long been known in the market as a specialist for particularly accurately dimensioned precision steel tubes. The ISO tolerance class h9 (H9) – produced solely by drawing processes – has reliably been reproduced by the tubing manufacturer for many years. Now, the tolerances for a part of the product spectrum are set even tighter to meet additional requirements.

For tubes with an outer diameter of 5.00 to 60.00 mm, the dimensional tolerances can now be restricted to class h8. In addition, an H8 tolerance is achievable for the inner diameter of 6.00 to 45.00 mm. As before, either the outer or the inner diameter can be set to the narrowest tolerance class. The respective opposing side may be up to one tolerance class lower (h8/H9 or h9/H8).

"Through targeted monitoring we have been able to further improve our tools and drawing processes," explains Dr.-Ing. Bengt-Henning Maas, CEO of P+P Präzisionsstahlrohre GmbH. "Achieving even closer tolerances is more effortful but price-attractive compared to other methods. For our customers, there are great advantages, as post-processing may no longer be required."

We will be pleased to check your individual requirements for feasibility.
