Poppe + Potthoff wins Innovation Award

Rolls-Royce Power Systems has awarded its best suppliers of 2017. Poppe + Potthoff – already voted the best newcomer for 2016 – has now received the Innovation Award.

P+P has been supplying tubular and precision components to Rolls-Royce Power Systems for many years, especially to its subsidiary MTU in Friedrichshafen. Particularly powerful engines for ships, commercial vehicles, trains and power generators are developed and manufactured here.

"In close cooperation with MTU, we have developed a novel common rail subsystem in which the high-pressure accumulator can be adapted modularly to the requirements of engines with 8, 12, 16 and 20 cylinders," Bengt-Henning Maas, head of the Tubular Components Division at P+P, explains.

Designed and qualified for system pressures up to 2500 bar, the new common rail subsystem combines the highest demands on quality with high flexibility in design and growing cost efficiency due to the increasing use of high-quality common parts.

The modular system was developed and validated at the P+P Technology Center in Werther, Germany. Series production is carried out at the plant in Ajka, Hungary, which specializes in common rails and injection lines.

Rolls-Royce Power Systems has a strict evaluation. Only the suppliers with the highest score in the categories quality, costs, delivery reliability, commitment to environmental protection and integrity are selected. In 2017, a total of 12 top companies received awards.
